Cyclone separator is a device for the collection of tapioca starch. Although cyclones provide a low-cost and low-maintenance method for removing larger particulate matters from gas streams, low collection efficiency of large scale cyclones for particles smaller than 5 ?m has been indicated as its disadvantage. An auxiliary device, a Post Cyclone, has been adopted to reduce the small particle emission from the cyclones using the strong swirl present in the vortex finder of the cyclone. Nonetheless, optimum design parameters of the Post Cyclone need to be ascertained extensively. Therefore, this work aims to determine the effects of two design parameters, i.e, the gap width between inner Post Cyclone and vortex finder, mass flow rate on the efficiency of tapioca starch collection and pressure drop. Experiments were conducted with three different configurations of the gap width, which were 1, 2 and 3 cm and under three different mass flow rates which were 0.02, 0.03, and 0.05 kg/s. The experiments demonstrated that the Post Cyclone increased the overall efficiency of the cyclone by 2–10 percent depending on the mass flow rate of tapioca starch and the gap width between Post Cyclone inner shell and vortex finder. The efficiency of cyclone, Post Cyclone, and cyclone combined with Post Cyclone increased with increasing mass flow rate. Moreover, pressure drop of the system decreased with increasing gap width. A 1 cm of the gap width and 0.05 kg/s of mass flow rate showed the highest collection efficiency
